What the rules cover, and how exhibitors set it up.

What the documents say

Smart City’s Ordering Guide says a personal hotspot will work in the building. Its Wireless Performance Agreement, part of its service contract, says “Wireless Devices not authorized by Smart City are strictly prohibited” and doesn’t mention cellular gateways.

Set it up wired

Switch MR·NET’s Wi-Fi off and plug laptops, payment terminals and screens into its four Ethernet ports. You add no Wi-Fi or access point to the hall and never touch Smart City’s network.

Federal law protects you

The FCC says no convention center or its network operator may block or disrupt personal Wi-Fi hot spots, and jamming Wi-Fi or cellular signals is illegal.

Compared with a 10 Mbps dedicated line at the OCCC at the incentive rate ($7,850, Smart City Exhibitor Ordering Guide, effective October 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026). Smart City doesn't say per day or per show; we treat it as per show. Data: 25 GB a show day (our customers use 10 to 40 GB) for a 3-day show at $8/GB. Excludes shipping and tax.

Questions exhibitors ask
About the Orange County Convention Center.

Who provides internet at the Orange County Convention Center?

Smart City Networks. The OCCC calls it “the exclusive provider of internet and telephone services at the Orange County Convention Center.” Its Exhibitor Ordering Guide lists shared and dedicated wired internet, Wi-Fi hotspots, equipment and labor. Orders go to orders.smartcitynetworks.com, (888) 446-6911 or customerservice@smartcitynetworks.com, and during the show the Smart City Service Desk is at 407-685-2000.

How much does internet cost at the Orange County Convention Center?

At the incentive rate, Premium Internet (a shared 10 Mbps connection) costs $1,095, and dedicated lines run from $3,495 for 3 Mbps to $19,250 for 25 Mbps, per Smart City's Exhibitor Ordering Guide (October 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026). Base and on-site rates are higher, and the order form adds an estimated 10% for taxes and fees. Neither document says per day or per show.

When should I order internet at the Orange County Convention Center?

Order with payment 30 days before the first day of move-in to get Smart City's incentive rate. The 2026 occc.net order form, the occc.net page and the Guide copy linked from occc.net all say 30 days; a Guide copy on Smart City's website says 21, so plan to 30. After that, base rates apply, and on-site orders cost base plus 20%.

Can I bring my own internet to the Orange County Convention Center?

Yes. MR·NET customers have deployed at the OCCC, and Smart City's own Ordering Guide says a personal hotspot will work in the building. Smart City's Wireless Performance Agreement, part of its service contract, says “Wireless Devices not authorized by Smart City are strictly prohibited” and doesn't mention cellular gateways. Run MR·NET with its Wi-Fi off and your devices on Ethernet, so you add no Wi-Fi to the hall.

Can the venue block or jam my hotspot or cellular gateway?

No. The FCC's Enforcement Bureau says no convention center or network operator providing service there may intentionally block or disrupt personal Wi-Fi hot spots, and federal law prohibits jamming Wi-Fi or cellular signals. The FCC has fined a convention center internet provider $750,000 and a hotel operator $600,000 for blocking hotspots. If you suspect blocking, file a complaint at fcc.gov/complaints. This is not legal advice.

Is there cellular coverage inside the Orange County Convention Center?

The Orange County Convention Center publishes no statement on cellular coverage. Smart City's Ordering Guide says carrier signals reach a facility from a nearby tower or an in-building Distributed Antenna System (DAS), and that user density can make hotspot service unreliable, but it doesn't say the OCCC has a DAS. MR·NET bonds Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, so your booth doesn't rely on any single one.

How do I order venue internet at the Orange County Convention Center?

Order at orders.smartcitynetworks.com, or use the 2026 order form linked from occc.net and contact Smart City at customerservice@smartcitynetworks.com or (888) 446-6911. Smart City requires a floor plan with every exhibitor order, and a complete floor plan 5 days before move-in avoids additional charges. Payment in full is due by move-in, and orders over $10,000 need a company check or money order.
