What It Costs to Rent Bonded Cellular for a One-Day Event

Short answer: A one-day bonded cellular setup costs the service or rental fee, plus data and shipping. With MR·NET, a managed bonded cellular service from MOTIONRAY Inc., first-time customers pay a $300 first-month trial plus $8/GB: a 4-hour stream at 6 Mbps uses about 13 GB ($104), so about $428 with $24 shipping, before tax. Rental pricing varies by provider and duration.

About $428 for one 4-hour stream on MR·NET's trial, including data and shipping, before tax

One event, priced out

The sticker price is never the whole bill. Data, shipping and time add up, and they decide which option is cheapest.

Here is one event priced out on MR·NET:

  • Service: $300 trial, covering the first month for first-time customers, on the first unit, hardware included

  • Data: a 4-hour stream at 6 Mbps uses about 13 GB, about $104 at $8/GB

  • Shipping: $24 standard (3 to 5 days)

  • MR·NET total: about $428 before tax

If you keep the gateway, the $300 is credited toward purchase. If you don’t, you ship it back at your own cost.

What goes into the bill?

Every bonded cellular quote, rental or service, comes down to the same parts. Ask for each one in writing.

The rental or service fee. Rentals are priced per day, week or month. MR·NET’s trial is a first-month price, not a day rate, so a multi-day event or a rehearsal the day before costs the same $300.

Data. Some rentals bundle data for the rental period; ask whether it is capped. MR·NET bills data separately at $8/GB from the first GB.

Shipping both ways. Outbound shipping, return shipping and rush fees. MR·NET standard shipping is $24, and overnight shipping is an extra $199.

Deposit and damage terms. What happens if a case comes back dented or a cable goes missing.

On-site labor. Some rental companies send a technician, for a fee. MR·NET’s support is remote, by chat or phone, after hours too.

How do you estimate data for your event?

Use this formula, based on MR·NET’s data math:

Data (GB) = 0.54 x bitrate (Mbps) x hours

The 0.54 already includes about 20% overhead. A 6 Mbps stream uses about 3.2 GB an hour. Multiply by $8 and you have your MR·NET data cost.

Two things push the number up. Higher bitrates: YouTube recommends 14 Mbps for 1080p30 H.264 and 42 Mbps for 4K30. And simultaneous streams: two cameras or a backup destination means adding their bitrates together. For upload capacity, plan about 1.5 times the total bitrate you send at once; read how much upload speed you need for the details.

Want to skip the math? Estimate your data with MR·NET’s calculator.

A live stream uses about 0.54 GB per hour for every 1 Mbps of bitrate

Worked examples

These MR·NET totals use the $300 trial, $24 standard shipping and $8/GB data. All figures are before tax and exclude return shipping if you don’t keep the gateway.

Event

Bitrate sent

Data

Data cost at $8/GB

MR·NET total (trial + $24 shipping)

2-hour stream

6 Mbps

about 6.5 GB

about $52

about $376

4-hour stream

6 Mbps

about 13 GB

about $104

about $428

4-hour stream

14 Mbps (YouTube’s recommended 1080p30)

about 30 GB

about $242

about $566

8-hour day, 2 cameras

12 Mbps combined

about 52 GB

about $415

about $739

The pattern: on MR·NET, the service fee is fixed for the month and data does the scaling. A long, high-bitrate day costs more in data than in service.

What should a rental quote include?

Rental pricing varies by provider and duration, and quotes are hard to compare at a glance. Before you compare a rental quote with the table above, check what it actually includes:

  • How many carriers the kit bonds, and whether they’re used at once or switched

  • Whether data is included, capped or billed per GB

  • Whether the price is per day, per week or per month, and whether ship days count as rental days

  • Shipping in both directions

  • Whether a technician is included or extra

  • Deposit, damage and late-return terms

LiveU units are also available to rent, through rental houses and peer-to-peer marketplaces. Those rentals cover a bonded encoder for one camera feed, not internet for the rest of the production. If you need both, price both. Our guide to managed service vs buying or renting compares the three models in full.

When does one event become several?

The trial covers your first month. If you stream regularly, the annual plan changes the math. MR·NET’s annual prepaid offer is $2,498: you buy the gateway, which you own, and the price includes the first year of MR·NET service. Renewal is $1,499 per unit per year. Data isn’t included and stays at $8/GB.

Take twelve 4-hour events a year at 6 Mbps. That’s about 156 GB of data, about $1,248:

Total before shipping and tax

$3,746

$2,747

Per event

about $229

At six events a year, the same math gives about $520 per event in year one and about $354 in year two. Compare those numbers with the per-event rental quotes you get. If you stream a lot, MR·NET’s custom plan offers prepaid data at $7/GB, plus custom data plans, advanced antennas, delayed activation and batch purchases.

Need just one more month after the trial? Month-to-month service is available on request. Most teams that run events regularly choose the annual plan, because from year two the per-event math above only gets better.

Hidden costs to ask about

  • Overage. If data is bundled, what happens past the cap? Does the rate change, or does the speed drop?

  • Return shipping. Who pays, and how fast does the kit need to go back?

  • Late return. Is there a daily charge if the kit ships back a day late?

  • Setup labor. Is a technician required for the venue, and is that billed by the hour?

  • Rehearsal days. Does a test day the day before count as a rental day?

With MR·NET, the trial includes no data, so every GB is billed at $8. If you don’t keep the gateway, return shipping is on you. MR·NET’s pricing FAQ lists a 14-day money-back guarantee for first-time customers.

How do you get MR·NET for your event?

  1. Start the $300 trial on MR·NET pricing. It’s for first-time customers, first unit only, with no commitment.

  2. Pick shipping. Standard is $24 (3 to 5 days). For a last-minute event, overnight shipping is an extra $199.

  3. Plug in. The MR 006 Plus arrives preconfigured with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile SIMs on high-priority enterprise-tier plans. Setup takes a few minutes.

  4. Stream, and call if you need to. MR·NET’s US-based team answers chat and phone, after hours too. MR·NET says its average response time is under a minute.

  5. Keep it or send it back. Keep the gateway and the $300 is credited toward purchase. MR·NET’s pricing FAQ also lists a 14-day money-back guarantee for first-time customers.
